A reported 155,000 people died in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. This number more than double when the second wave hit the country. The case load of infection stood at >20,000,000, with the worse hit being the socio-economically weaker communities. Scientists & Co. designed and delivered a community outreach programme educating poor over 700 households on ways to care and protect themselves & their families from the COVID-19 infections in 2021 at the height of the second wave. In addition to our team, volunteering students from disadvantaged backgrounds were recruited and trained as ambassadors to disseminate this knowledge to their family members and neighbours.
